"Good but could be better"

About: The Tunbridge Wells Hospital

The ambulance staff were brilliant who took me to the hospital. The reason for being taken to hospital in the first place was a back injury, which had left me in agonising pain down the whole of my left leg in the middle of the night. I was literally screaming in pain and the gas and air given by the amblulance crew didn't touch it. The shock of the pain was also causing me to dehydrate. So I was a little surprised that I was left for 2 hours without any pain medication in A&E and it was only when my husband went and found a nurse, did someone appear and administer some strong drugs. My own nurse had been called away to a ward it turned out. After 4 hours I was discharged at 8am. This would have been all well and good, but the reason I was in there in the first place was that I couldn't move, let alone walk. We were left to find our own wheelchair and my husband to push me out in the rain to the car park. I am not criticising the staff. They were busy and clearly cuts are biting, but there needs to be more care taken over patients. I know that means more money pumped in, but if you are like me, have never gone to A&E before, have never needed an ambulance, you do come away feeling that the system really is struggling a little. I know it could have been much worse though.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback on your experience when attending the Accident and Emergency Department at Tunbridge Wells Hospital. We were very sorry to learn that your visit did not go as well as we would hope and in particular, that you were left without pain relief for a period of time. If you would like to discuss your experience with a senior member of the A&E department, please do not hesitate to contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 01892 632953 or email mtwpals@nhs.net, where a member of staff will be happy to pass your contact details on. In the meantime, we will share your comments with the senior A&E staff, for consideration as part of their regular review of services. Kind regards, The PALS Team.
