"Experience of weekend"

About: Northern General Hospital

I had a vet mixed experience, the care I received from the nursing staff was brilliant, the issue I had was getting some form of consistency in my care. I had a pretty routine Gallbladder removal, was in hospital for 4 nights, I saw about 8 different consultants who all introduced themselves but to be honest I don't really remember their names. I can live with this the issue I had was when it came it being discharged, this happened over the weekend. The doctors are so busy that they have no time to talk to you, I had a doctor came took my drug chart then I didn't see him again. After being told I would be able to go home at 8am it was 6pm before I left. Again I expected this as I had seen it through my stay. I just feel like I had very little aftercare information. The nurses are not allowed to tell you anything and he doctors don't have time. I am grateful for the care I had but I think because of the pressures small things can make a big difference to the perception of the care that is received. One final comment about the food - if the hospital provided some fruit at mealtimes they could probably reduce the money spent on laxatives ! Summary - great care but the relationship with the patient and the information they receive is vary important.
