"My daughters amazing experience having her first..."

About: Queen's Hospital (Romford)

I write this message on behalf of my daughter and myself (and my granddaughter!!). My daughter Justine's due date for her first baby was Tuesday 11th Feb and we prepared ourselves that baby could be up to 2 weeks over that date! On Friday 7th Feb we went out for dinner and decided to have an early night (10pm). 45 minutes later Justine came to my room and said she thought her "waters" had broken because she had only 2 minutes before emptied her bladder. It was only trickling so I made her walk around and lots more water came out! Justine called the birth centre and was told to come into the hospital for them to check! On arrival we were met by a midwife who examined Justine and was told that it was her waters but because there wasn't any pain and if she felt happy she could return home but if by 11am the following morning (8th Feb) if still no labour she would have to return to have the labour induced because of risks to her and the baby! The midwife explained that she would then have to go onto the labour ward! Justine had opted for a natural birth in the birthing pool! We returned home by approx 2.45am and thankfully within the hour justine experienced some pain. By 6am the pains were strong and the contractions were closer together-she wanted to go back to the hospital. I called the birth centre and told them we were on our way. We arrived at 6.45 and was met by the same midwife who once again examined Justine-she was in labour and 6 centimetres dilated! The birthing pool was prepared and at 7.43 my beautiful daughter gave birth to her beautiful daughter Tillie~Rose with me being the birthing partner! It was the most amazing experience for me to witness. My daughter ended up having the safe delivery of her baby exactly they way she had hoped for. All the staff were absolutely brilliant at all times. We would just love to thank them all for their professionalism. They were discharged 6 hours later after Tillie was thoroughly examined by a senior midwife whilst a second midwife explained to Justine all the details of after care etc! Once again we would just like to thank you all so very much. Sharon and Justine

Thank you for sharing your daughter’s experience on NHS Choices. I am delighted to hear that she had a positive experience of giving birth in one of our birthing pools. I’m pleased it was an amazing experience for you as well as a birthing partner. Congratulations on the birth of Tilly-Rose. Yours sincerely Flo Panel-Coates Director of Nursing
