"I had an outpatience appointment ..."

About: Stafford Hospital

(as the patient),

What could be improved

I had an outpatience appointment to see my oncologist in June. It was posponed, It has been posponed for times now my 4th appointment is in Dec. I am a 5yrs survivor of breast cancer. All I can say is I hope they treat the ones with cancer better and quicker than me, If they are I don't mind waiting.

Thank you for your comments. We can respond as follows:-

These delays do not affect patients who are waiting for diagnosis or treatment, but those who have already been diagnosed and/or treated and are due for regular review by an Oncologist.

The reasons for these delays has been due to one doctor being on sick leave since early this year and recently has regrettfully taken the decision to retire after many years. During this doctor's absence we have been able to backfill his clinics with other Oncologists from University Hospital of North Staffordshire. A Consultant Clinical Oncologist specialises in urological cancers and a Consultant Clinical Oncologist specialises in breast and gynaecology cancers.

We have therefore been required to reschedule follow-up patients to attend one of the new clinics for the new consultants.

We will be writing to all of the patients affected by the rescheduling advising them of this but in the meantime if any patient has any concerns about their health please contact your GP in the first instance.
