"Knitting group at Lucy Wade Unit"

About: Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust / Adult mental health (inpatient)

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

Written on behalf of the Lucy Wade Unit community meeting: 26/2/2014

Service users on the ward had a discussion about what activities would be good for on the ward. A highlighted activity was knitting! People wanted to do some knitting and learn how to knit- fortunately two of the staff members in attendance were skilled at knitting and happy to take this forward.

The next day a knitting group commenced and the ward is starting to make a blanket.

How quickly a simple idea can evolve.. I have witnessed different staff & service users having a go and really enjoying it reporting how relaxing it is! I have also learned a few techniques myself (!)

service users have made a joint decision to knit little patches & join them together as one to create a large mural for a framed display on the ward .. this could take some time but we have accepted the challenge and have made a great start: )

Always fantastic to see moveing so positively at the Lucy Wade unit.

The community meetings are a great opportunity for patients to feedback about the care they receive and generate ideas to improve their stay. This is a fantastic example of staff listening and responding to feedback. Always a pleasure to read such positive feedback.
