"Children's A&E -sloppy"

Daughter was taken by me to a&e after a fall which resulted in a deep cut to her brow. Despite being given a card saying we should b seen by triage nurse in 10mins, we waited for 20min in a fairly not busy a&e.Triage nurse asked me to remove the bandage, I had to tell her i cant, i'm whoozy n also not trained to remove bandages from a cut! Despite her big gash, we had to wait another 60-90 mins to see a dr who gave her a dressing which was rather sloppy. Hair got stuck in the dressing/ glue. Not impressed. But the nearest to our house.

I am responding to this patient experience in my capacity as Matron of this area. I was very disappointed to hear that your experience was not a positive one and the care you received was not of the highest quality we strive to deliver. I have shared your experience with the team (Dr & nurses) and the impact of their actions had on you. With reference to the yellow card, this card is to ensure that during busy periods children still waiting to be assessed are more visible. Although it does make reference to 10 minutes, the card requests you to inform a member of staff if you have not been assessed in 10 minutes. I will review the wording to make it clearer.
