"Knee replacement at Barnsley and Barlboro ISTC - still waiting"

About: Barnsley Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

After having been waiting for more than 2 years for knee replacement at Barnsley General.(Through lost records admin. errors, pre admission, when it was found that the surgeon about to do the deed was'nt qualified to do replacements)

I discovered the op. could possibly be done at Barlbro Ings in Nottinghamshire pending the OK from Barnsley DGH. I made first contact with Kendray Hospital who set the ball rolling. The day after I received a call from Barlborough ISTC and a date was given was given for a full examination 2 weeks later.

This was a wonderful experience, plenty of parking, staff to greet you with a smile and kind words. In a spotless hospital I was weighed, measured and samples taken Xrayed and ECG done all in 1 hour by super efficient friendly staff. Then I was interviewed by a 1st class surgeon who explained in detail the procedure, I was set at ease and a date was given for the op.to suit me only THREE WEEKS later. Then I saw the Anaesthetist and after a lengthy further exam. I was told the op. could not be done because as I have a Heart condition and they don't have facilities for any complications. BDGH must have ommitted to tell them of my condition so here I am, back in limbo and faith in BDGH gone.
