"Generally good treatment on Huntsman 5 at Northern General"

About: Northern General Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I was a patient on Huntsman 5 at the Northern General hospital for the treatment of a torn patella tendon. The treatment was generally good, although there was a long wait for transport when I was discharged.

There seemed to be a lack of communication between A&E and Huntsman 5, as the ward was waiting for my arrival whilst I was still in A&E. Later, my wife came to A&E with my overnight bag and was told that I had been taken to Huntsman 5. When she arrived there, she was told that I was on my way there and to leave my overnight bag for me there. Yet it was some considerable time before I went to the ward and then straight to the operating theatre. 'Urgent' admissions can leave patients and family bewildered and in a mild state of shock. More understanding and communication would be helpful.
