I gave birth to our first child - a son - in January 2014 at Rotherham General Hospital. The care I received from the healthcare team in the delivery unit was absolutely fantastic from start to finish.
As my waters had ruptured but labour hadn't started, I had to be induced. There were a couple of very scary times over the weekend that I was in the hospital (once when my baby's heartbeat disappeared temporarily and towards the end when I had to have an emergency c-section) but the midwifes, doctors and the anaesthetist were all amazing and really helped keep me calm.
Despite the fact that my labour was complicated and distressing at times I was confident in their care throughout, and felt that every decision was made easy for me due to their constant advice and help. Every member of the team was friendly and really helped make the process much less traumatic than it could have been.
The care on the maternity ward (I stayed for one night) was also fantastic - the midwives were extremely helpful and understanding and played a huge part in getting me settled in to life with a newborn (including excellent advice on breastfeeding, and some very helpful demos from the nursery nurse).
I was completely confident in the care I received throughout the birth of my son, and am extremely grateful to the entire healthcare team for the support they provided to myself, my husband and our new son.
