My Father was recently a patient at Chelt General. I was appalled at the poor administration. I have a number of observations/complaints: -
1). Medications took 6 hours to follow a patient from ward to ward. Nursing staff in the new ward were unaware of the requirements and were waiting for a porter to bring them.
2). Porter arrived to take my father to X-ray. We travelled across the hospital only to discover that the wrong patient had been requested. 3) Pharmacy took 5-6 hours to sort out medication before he could go home.
3) Pharmacy took 5-6 hours to sort out medication before he could go home.
4) Porter arrived to take my father to his transport. Only to discover, after transferring to a wheelchair that it was intended for a different patient, and his transport home took another 3 hours to arrange.
Obviously all these delays illustrate a poor use of resources and a waste of money.
However my biggest fear is that the next time my father needs to pull his emergency cord or operate in necklace/emergency alarm, the hassle he experienced at Chelt general, will cause him to delay calling for help - with potentially fatal results.
I hasten to add that the nursing care itself was perfectly adequate, but the organisation left a very poor impression of the hospital as a whole. The hospital desperately need better co-ordination of its porter.
