"Ward D - Respiratory care"
About: Southmead Hospital Southmead Hospital Bristol BS10 5NB
Posted via NHS Choices
My father was admitted to ward D on the 12 February 2014 (he was previously at Frenchay Hospital). I felt like (and still feel like) he has gone from a homeless shelter to the Ritz! My father and whole family have been cared for in such a remarkable way, all the staff in Ward D should be so proud of themselves and are an inspiration to the rest of the health service. If the HNS trust has any ‘ward excellence’ awards, it should be given to this ward. All the staff from the doctors, cleaning staff, catering staff and nurses have been truly amazing. They have treated my father with the upmost respect and provided the care he deserves. They have engaged and communicated with him in a professional and caring way that makes me proud and restored my faith in the NHS. Again, the care has extended to my family. Just when you think you are about to emotionally break, an angel appears from nowhere with a cup of tea and a warm hand or a cuddle. I think ward D at Southmead should be used as a blueprint to the rest of the NHS and if only every member of staff in the Bristol area could shadow someone here for just 30 minutes, they would learn so much. Here you will find people who are passionate about caring for others, are motivated in their jobs and have not forgotten that nursing is about “effective, compassionate and high quality care”. I will keep bringing in the chocolates.
