"Left speechless at Leicester General Hospital"

About: Leicester General Hospital / General medicine

(as the patient),

I was admitted at Leicester General Hospital. In the short time I spent there I was left speechless by some of what I saw and heard.

From the filthy toilets to the whinging nurses, who actually complained to me, who was unwell, about how tired they were and how fed up they were! One nurse said there was no cover and she had been asked to work extra hours and she was virtually on the edge of tears. I asked her could she not refuse to do the extra hours and she said it would go against her - statistics or something?

I lay in bed feeling really ill hearing another nurse saying how she was so fed up she wasn't coming back! and in the admissions ward the attitude of one of the senior nurses was absolutely terrible. I think she was either having a very bad day or was having some sort of breakdown. She was screaming at other staff around her and when I spoke to her she was so patronising it was nasty that I couldn't believe she was a nurse! My sisters were amazed at how foul-tempered she was.

The waiting to be seen areas in the corridors of the hospital were something out a war zone. I thought I was going to be attacked by a drunk who wouldn't leave me alone. It was absolutely horrendous. The toilets in that part were filthy, if i had have had my mobile on me I would have taken a photo. There was urine all over the floor, the toilet was dirty and there was blood stains on the floor, as well as toilet paper all strewn across it.

Unless I think it is a real life or death emergency I will never go into hospital again - well certainly not that hospital.
