"Cannot fault the care I received"

I found out I was pregnant, well, I knew it was. Anyway, got to 7 weeks and I begin to have slight pain on one side.

I book in to the EPU at Princess Anne Hospital, Southampton and have an internal scan. 5 anxious minutes pass and the lady scanning me, Jude, explained that there is a gestational sac but it is empty. She showed me the live pictures and explained that it's not a question of if, but when I would miscarry. She answered my questions before I could ask them.

I went to another room to have my blood taken to see the hcg levels. Had 2 more blood tests which all showed a "suboptimal rise". This meant that something was still going on... The first scan was on a Thursday, the last on Tuesday. I had 4 days in limbo. It was terrible. Knowing it was going to happen, but when?

I get a call on Tuesday to say my hcg levels are almost 15,000 and I must be scanned again. 30 mins into the scan, they see what could be an ectopic pregnancy. I am immediately admitted for a laparoscopic investigation. Thankfully no ectopic but a cyst. They do an ERPC and have sent off for tests.

I cannot fault the care I received last week. At no point was I unsure of what was going on and nor was I given false hope (which would have done more emotional harm). This is the 2nd miscarriage I have had in 4 years.

At no point was I made to feel it was my fault, there wasn't anything I could do - there was a problem, my body recognised and dealt with it. It helps to have doctors, nurses, admin and ultrasound staff who are sympathetic and give you a mum hug at 3am when you feel rubbish.
