I went into A&E with unbearable stomach pains. I was seen to within 15 mins of arriving. I had to wait a further hour or so before anything else happened however my diagnosis was quick. The doctor took a urine sample and a blood sample. From this they concluded my blood was showing signs of infection where as my urine was clear. My symptons pointed to appendicitis. I was transferred from A&E to STU (surgical triage unit). I was given pain relief and a bed to sleep on until a surgeon was free to see me. The care I had was fantastic, I've never been so well looked after. I wish I could recall the on duty staff members names. I saw the surgeon and he examined me then explained what the best course of action would be. It was agreed I would go through keyhole surgery to have my appendix removed. I was anxious as I have never had anything like this before, the staff were very reassuring, worth their weight in gold. I spoke to the anaesthetist who explained what was going to happen to me. After around 12 hours or so of waiting I was taken to undergo surgery. True to the anaesthetists word I fell asleep and woke up like nothing had happened. My head was a little sore and stomach too but that was to be expected, nothing worse than a hangover. I was moved to C3 (I think?) where again I was cared for fantastically. At no point was I left wanting. I had excellent pain relief and after care. The next day I was feeling miles better, I was discharged and sent home with pain killers. The whole experience has been very positive, the real magic behind this all was the staff. Absolutely brilliant, id recommend the hospital to anyone.
