"Terrible experience!"

About: Manor Hospital

I was referred to Ward 23 in the early part of January 2014 from my GP having been prescribed two weeks of antibiotics for a Bartholin's cyst. On arrival the first problem I experienced was there was blood smudged on the floor of the examination room. On my concern, the nurse did clean up but I am sure all rooms should be cleaned in between patients. The senior register prescribed antibiotics (2 types) and told me there was no correlation of this cyst with another problem I was having. A week later another senior register saw me and said I had an abscess not a Bartholins cyst. Again I asked if there was a correlation between another problem i was having he said definitley not. He gave me another two types of antibiotics and said was no option for surgery. Having taking antibiotics for the 4th week I went back with the same problem. Another senior registrar saw me and said I needed intravenous antibiotics and he said no one would do surgery and he would keep giving antibiotics. I asked if there was again any association with another problem I was having and if they should do more tests he said no. Just to add, each time my previous notes were not availiable and they kept asking what antibiotics I had been given previous week. Also the medical student who gave me intravenous antibiotics did not wash her hands or use gloves which I complained about. Finally whilst i was getting changed some other nurse walked in with the plumber ( a male) who needed to check the sink without knocking! In the end I went back to my consultant at New cross who did an Ultrasound and diagnosed there was a correlation between abscess and pain at the back. He operated straight away. I am not impressed with the doctors here - if they can't find an answer to a problem they should refer to a consultant and not play a guessing game and if needed do more tests and not ignore what patient is saying! Never come back here again. There is a lot you need to sort out in this department from basic cleaning to managment of patient.
