"Amu avoid at all costs"

About: Worcestershire Royal Hospital

My partner has terminal dance and has been admitted three times via A&E. On each occasion she has been treated for conditions that she does not have and dumped in AMU, possible the worst ward in the hospital. She has had to help other patients whilst staff ignore calls and stand around talking or drinking. She had been left in pain for 18 hours without a doctor being called. She has had a severe fever and been smothered in blankets until a specialist cancer nurse visited the ward and took action to cool her core temperature down and call a doctor. She has been in there two days for inability to breath, even though on oxygen, had a tube placed into her bladder to drain it and an ennama. The result has been the galloping trots but no staff answering the bell to assist with bedpan or getting to toilet leading to her being left in her own mess. She has just contacted me at home an told me that the ward is in lock down because she is being blamed for taking nurd virus into the ward. They pumped her full of liquid and left her to suffer, it was not her choice. She is in major distress and trying to get a taxi out of there. No doctors available and still not being treated for the cancer. This is typical amu. No use talking to the staff as they will not hear any complaints, waves her arms and walks away. Stay away from here if you can

I was very sorry to hear about you and your partner’s experience on AMU. This is not the standard of care that we expect from our staff, and I am very concerned. I would like the opportunity to investigate further, but would need some further information in order to do so. Please could I ask that you contact me by calling the hospital switchboard 01905 763 333 and asking the operator to bleep 513? Alternatively you could call our patient services department on 0300 123 1733. We take all complaints seriously so that we can learn from them and improve our standards of care and patient experience. Matron Anita Cupper, AMU
