About: Kettering General Hospital

My first contact with the consultant surgeon was due to a referral from another doctor after a tumor on my right Kidney was discovered during a ct scan. I arrived for my first appointment at the treatment centre, a fairly new facility situated to the side of the main hospital building. On arrival I was treated curtiously and efficiently by the receptionist and nursing staff. I was promptly shown into his consulting room, after the introductions had been made, he explained in great detail the proposed treatment for my condition, it was explained to me that it was necessary to remove my Kidney as the tumor was thought to be Cancer. It was explained to me that the procedure would be carried out using key hole surgery as the recovery time would be far shorter than if open surgery was used. I was admitted to Kettering general on the fourth of July 2013, the surgeon visited me prior to my surgery to explain what to expect and how long the procedure was expected to take. He explained to me that I was not a straight forward case and that he may have to resort to open surgery but he would only do so if absolutely necessary, my wife who accompanied me on the day of the surgery was understandably very concerned and worried for me, he took the time to reassure her and promised to ring her as soon as the surgery was over. True to his word he took the time after performing six hours of complicated surgery to call my wife to reassure her and tell her the surgery was successful. I am now fully recovered and don't even notice I have only one Kidney. My wife and I have nothing but praise and gratitude for the surgeon and his team. We were treated with dignity and were fully informed from day one right through to post op. Thanks to the skill and dedication of him and his team, I am still here today writing this review, for that I will be forever grateful.

Thank you so much for sharing your positive experience through the Treatment Centre Pathway at Kettering General Hospital. It was important to hear that as well as the good care received by you from staff that communication between staff, yourself and your wife gave you the necessary reassurance at what was quite an anxious time. Your kind comments have been shared with all of the team involved in your care who are always pleased to receive such feedback.
