I failed the bowel screening I. e. blood in my stools.
I attended the Ayr Hospital for a colonoscopy. A polyp was found and removed. Later diagnosis confirmed it contained cancer cells. The cancer cells were confirmed to be in the polyp head and stalk but the last 0. 5mm of the stalk was cancer free.
My consultant and Amy the Colorectal Nurse put me at ease as they informed me of the results. A further meeting was held with the consultant and Amy and I was given all the details in a way that I understood. From this I was able to make an informed decision to take the "monitoring" route rather than the bowel surgery ie resection.
I have had biopsies, CT scans and CEA blood tests over the past 18 months and thankfully all have been negative results. The monitoring is still on going.
I cannot praise my consultant highly enough for his expertise and patient management skills. Also Amy who has been a rock for my wife and I. If I had any queries regards my treatment and results Amy was always there whether it be via telephone, emails or at her excellent clinic meetings.
The Endoscopy unit at Ayr Hospital is truly remarkable.
"Remarkably good care through Bowel Screening"
