"Care of the Elderly"

About: Scunthorpe General Hospital

My mum is 89yrs of age ,she was sent to scunthorpe hospital by her GP for a brain scan following a recent fall and banging her head in the care home. The ambulance didnt pick her up until 1.30 in the afternoon, she arrived at A&e around 2pm, 3hrs later she was taken to the Medical assesment ward she still hadnt been seen by anyone, AT 6pm we asked for mum to be changed as she is incontinent, We asked the nurse why a doctor had,nt seen her Reply was A&e did not class her as there patient because a GP had sent her in and there were no beds available earlier on the assesment ward?At this point our concerns grew because mum had not been given a drink or any food the carer told us she was not allowed a drink after we had to ask!The nurse on the ward went to get her a sandwich and a drink but she was so poorly she could not eat or drink . She had not been given any medical attention and we were told she was not a priority? Eventually at 10,45 in the evening a doctor came and said she may have a bleed on her brain a sent her for a scan sometime during the night, We know nurses are busy , but the majority have a bad attitude there was only one nurse who had any compasion since then Mum has been admitted again because she had another fall and has broken her hip She has had major surgery , Again when we ask how she is the reply we get is I don't know I've just had three days off. We were told she had her hip pinned 3 days later we are told she had a full hip replacement. Apart from knowing when there day,s off are and when there holiday is due patient care and involvement is not important My poor mum!
