"A load off my chest............with Thanks"

About: Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital

I am a young 38 year old woman and I have been under the care of a consultant for the last 3 years after numerous poking and prodding along with hundreds of ECG's. I had a device fitted in the region of the left breast area. I had the device in for 2 years and developed a keloid scar which was very unsightly visible and asked at my preop if could they remove this when the device was taken out; the practice nurse actually rang the consultant surgeon and asked for me which was amazing. I was taken on to the day ward at 7am the nurses were all fantastic, laughing, chatting away, even helping me into the lovely gown and paper knickers ha ha. Keeping everybody up to date on when they were expected to go down to theatre and even sitting and chatting to a lovely little old lady that had come for Southport and IOM with no family there to putting them at ease, even getting a phone charger for the lady from IOM as she could not fly home that night, All going above and beyond the duty of care. I went down for my surgery late afternoon to have my device removed and had a real laugh with the theatre staff before the surgeons even came in making me comfy and even putting a pillow under my knees to support my back as I had to be awake for surgery. I was operated on by a surgeon who really put me at ease, even joking that I was getting a scouse fake tan with the iodine but he refused to give me scouse brows with the sharpie pen ha ha. Me being the awkward woman that I am things did not go to plan but they took everything in their stride, keeping really calm reassuring me even when I told him I was going to be sick, he told me not to move but they would roll me to vomit into a bowl. Another doctor scrubbed up and assisted as I had a little bleed chatting away to me and even telling me how sorry he was because the anaesthetic does not fully numb scar tissue and even tried to give me more as to not feel anything even though it was nothing to do with anything but nature. The Drs removed the device along with the scar and did such a great job. No matter how much I write on this review it will never reveal how grateful I am to the Drs, nurses, care assistants and even the tea lady on the ward who had two cups of coffee waiting for me when I got back around 5pm as I had missed my morning cuppa. Your hospital and staff are fine examples of what healthcare strives to achieve. With my greatest appreciation for all the members of LLCH that aren’t just people but form a chain to become a team.
