"Josephine Barnes ward"

About: Chelsea & Westminster Hospital

I was admitted with an infection at 22 weeks and my husband was away for work. I was placed in a separate room, understandably so not to spread infection. I requested they my mother come to see me in place of my husband so that I had Some support. I them asked if my sister could swap places with my mum to which the admin staff said no. I was pregnant with my first child, highly stressed, no husband, petrified of something happening to the baby and the midwife clearly saw this, called reception and told them that they should allow my mum and sister to swap places and they refused the midwife. This was the most awful experience of my life, where reception staff were able to decide on patient care. Where is the patient care if an administrator can override the midwife's recommendation. The consultant was shocked and I got a verbal apology from some woman who came to see my 2 hours too late. I am booked for a c section next week and I'm absolutely petrified of the same thing happening again. I need my family around me to help me get through a very difficult pregnancy and complicated labour. It's keeping me awake at night, hence I'm writing this at 4.30am. I don't see why I can't have the people I need around me if I am in a separate room to all the other patients. The fact is that going to have to pay an extortionate amount of money to get a room so that I can have the privacy and family time I need only probably to be denied by some admin staff. I am seriously thinking if going to st George's where my family has had amazing care and the staff have accommodated the mother and baby in an exceptional manner. I only have 2 days left to my c section and I really don't know what to do... This is what my experience of Chelsea and Westminster has done.. Destroyed my excitement and feeling of happiness to the build up of giving birth to my first child.
