"Poor care for my son and I at St James hospital, Leeds"

About: St James's University Hospital / Nephrology

(as a relative),

My son was admitted to the St James hospital in Leeds with kidney problems. He is 24 years old and has learning difficulties as well as medical problems. As such, I am his full-time carer. However, on this last visit to the hospital, I was made to feel most unwelcome. It seems that it varies greatly, from staff to staff, how carers are treated. Sometimes you are made to feel as if you are not respected, not a part of the team in helping to support the person you are caring for. The staff on this occasion were most uncooperative - they insisted that I give my son's medication to them, and then they did not give him his medication when required at the correct times.

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience at St James's Hospital. I am sorry to hear that this visit did make you feel unwelcome.

I shall pass your comments onto the Patient Relations Manager at the hospital.
