"How to obtain a blood result done in Colchester..."

About: Colchester General Hospital

I do not believe staffs at Colchester hosp. work any harder than anywhere else. But there is total lack of governance inspite of many beurocratic post holders.was advised a blood test in urology clinic , done on 27/11/13 , after a clinic consultation, I was told in the clinic that would receive a copy of the letter that will be written to GP, after ringing twice the secretary I eventually received after three weeks a copy of the letter written to GP which was copied to me but secretary perhaps forgot to send both to GP and me.because until then none of us GP or myself received any letter, only after my phone call sent me a copy to me and GP ( fax) There was no mention of blood result, after another three weeks on 06/01 /14 saw GP , GP did not receive any result. Wrote to consultant on 17/01 posted first class written confidential on top so that not ignored, but did not receive any reply. Then rang secy. at 10-35 AM yesterday 04/02/14 , was not at desk an answer phone advised to,leave message, will ring back. As usual no reply till 02-30 PM today,05/02/14 rang again this time secy, answered , after taking my details , said did not check any message left on answer phone , said also did not receive my letter dt. 17/01/14, then asked me why GP has not got result, ( the reason is in the form written by clinician on 27/11/13did not advise for copied to GP, this my GP told me therefore GP did not receive result) , then after knowing my unit no. etc. told me the result but will not send me the result in writing only to GP , said sometime this afternoon, 05/02/14 after more than two months from 27/11/13. This will go to GP. With Internet and advanced education and motto of working with patients still does not allow to give report such a blood result to patient in writing. That means to arrange an appointment to see GP for few minutes just to get the confirmed result, that is a long process again to get an appointment with GP. About ohers such as long delay, not checking answerphone , to ring to get copy and request send letter to GP , not receiving my letter etc.etc. because of casual carefree attitude I can see at Colchester NHS. This is not fault of the clinician who was very very efficient with first rate consultation but after clinic service and total lack of governance by the large administration.

I apologise you’ve not had a good patient experience. We try really hard to improve our services based on the comments we receive from our patients, their relatives or carers. We would like the opportunity to discuss your experiences more fully and to apologise in person. If you are willing I would appreciate it if I could ask the manager of the service to contact you. Could you email me, using the reference “Urology at RDEE4-Colchester General Hospital at 05/02/2014 15:26:44 ”, please? Many thanks Paul Searle, Head of Communications Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust info@colchesterhospital.nhs.uk
