About: Royal Berkshire Hospital

The car park was full making everyone late for appointments. Two of the places I was expected to attend, ECG & pathology were closed!! Had to go to other side of hospital, twice. The place was overcrowded and shabby looking, in pathology it was like being on a production line., not so much as a please or thank. One member of staff pointed and said "in there" I am not looking forward to having my operation in this Hospital at all.

We are so sorry that your first impression of our care was so negative. It is usual practice for the pre-operative assessment nurse to check opening times of departments and give guidance on where to go for tests and we apologise that this didn't happen for you. With regards to your comments regarding Pathology (Phlebotomy), unfortunately at times the service can be very busy because it is a walk-in service, but the staff do try hard to minimise waits by working as efficiently as possible. We are also aware of how the waiting room looks and are currently investigating how this could be improved within the limitations of the building. We are very disappointed with your reception by the phlebotomy staff; they are usually known for their pleasant approach. The manager for the area will make sure that all the staff are made aware of your feedback and ask them to ensure they greet patients before politely inviting them to take a seat in the directed room. We would welcome the opportunity to speak with you prior to your admission in order to reassure you that you will be well cared for when you are with us. Please contact the Ward Sister on Sonning Ward by telephoning 0118 322 7191.
