"Dont trust this hospital with your eyes."

About: Moorfields Eye Hospital (City Road Campus)

Dont trust this hospital with your eyes! I went in with slight irritation in my eyes and they took out something from under the cornea without giving me any warning whatsoever of the risks. They just said my eye would be ‘a bit sore’ for a few days. When anaesthetic wore off I was in absolutely excruciating pain hyperventilating and had to go back in an ambulance. I then learned I might have corneal erosion syndrome as a result of them going into the cornea to take the thing out. I had to have five weeks off work, using up all my sick pay, and three months later it hasn’t healed. I have had various excruciating attacks, I have to constantly put drops and ointment into my eyes. I can’t have my heating on, cant wear make up , cant drink alcohol, have to wear protective glasses on the tube, cant use my oven – dry heat increases the risk of attack. Why didn’t they warn me of the risks? My other eye is a lazy eye and I cant read with it. My ‘treatment’ at Moorfields has made my life a misery. I cant even get drunk to drown my sorrows. Shame on you Moorfields , I’m not an animal, I should have been warned of the risks before you did this to me.

This sounds like a very serious complaint and something we ought to look into in more detail. The best way for this to happen is for you to make a formal complaint via our patient advice and liaison service (PALS). They will then to be able to investigate more fully and provide you with proper feedback, as well as ensuring that we take any necessary action to prevent another patient from experiencing the same issues. You can contact the PALS team via email to pals@moorfields.nhs.uk or on 020 7566 2324/2325.
