"Fear no more"

About: The Royal Victoria Infirmary

Hi, if you are like me and letting you mind do overtime thinking of your surgery and a stay in hospital let me tell you more. I've recently had breast surgery in the RVI, and have to say the whole experience was really ok, nothing to be scared of. I went to theatre and was met by a friendly male theatre nurse who eased my fear by asking my first starter question for £50 (my name), this eased me and made me laugh, the staff were friendly and reassuring (must also thank the young nurse, who unbeknown made me feel calm). Before I knew it, it was all over, truly, in a flash your asleep, then awake, no problems (thanks to the anaesthetist), and no pain, really.... honestly. Ward 44 staff are also fab (no not being paid for saying this) I watched and listened to them doing what I suppose, comes natural to them, the auxiliary nurse is salt of the earth, she is diligent, helpful and caring (you definitely should be paid more for what you do) she is not stop. Night staff were lovely too, the sound of the nurse and their spoken words made me feel at home, one poorly lady at the end of their shift, had an accident and the bed was wet, " aww nevermind hinny, its alright, don't you worry, we'll get this put right, its no problem" and they did, they stripped her and the bed down and made it all better, constantly reassuring the lady, everyone in the ward were humbled by them, (not that they would realise, or ever know) you are truly angels, always professional, caring and considerate. Listening to them warmed my heart, you are lovely, lovely people. So a big, big thank you girls. So there you have it, your stay will be equally as easy as mine, Im sure, so please don't be too frightened, everyone there are truly happy to help you, good luck and I wish you a speedy recovery. Liz
