I delivered at General Hospital Maternity ward and was quite apprehensive after visiting the maternity assessment unit earlier in my pregnancy. I was admitted without any wait because the nurses could see that i needed attended to sooner rather than later. The delivery was not straight forward, (because of some complications with the baby and myself). The Midwifes (i had 2 student midwives (night shift) also in the room, who i thought were brilliant) and one main midwife, who kept me informed and consulted me on every decision. I felt very calm through my labour all because of the midwifes communicating well with me at every step, and involving me and asking permission before any action taken. I asked for an epidural and didn't have to wait for it, was given it straight away, the Dr that gave my epidural was brilliant and i did not feel a thing. I had a forcep delivery and wouldn't even think afterwards that the birth wasn't straightforward as i was made to feel calm throughout. If i ever had another baby it would definitely be at the general. I have made a brilliant recovery and this was probably due to the positive experience that i had. I discharged myself on the same day so unfortunately didn't get a chance to give any chocs/flowers to the nurses.
