"Fracture clinic delays"

About: Broomfield Hospital

I attended the fracture clinic for a 2.05pm appointment on 27 January. I was there on time and at exactly 2.05pm the assistant/nurse brought me an x-Ray form. I duly went to be x-rayed and returned my x-Ray slip back to the fracture clinic as instructed and by 2.30pm. I sat patiently for 1hr 15mins and the screen said the consultant was running on time, yet I could hear people saying that was clearly wrong. At 3.45pm I asked what was happening as I had a 4pm physio appointment. I was told not to worry as I was next. So I waited patiently. Eventually I was called in at 3.55pm to an empty consulting room and then left there for another half hour! Fifteen minutes into this wait I asked his assistant/nurse where he was and was brusquely told he was in the plaster room and would be here in a minute. Fifteen minutes a completely different doctor who I have never seen before came in to talk to me. He asked when my next physio appointment was and I said now, I am missing it. He said I am supposed to let them know if I am not going to make an appointment! Cheek! Had I not been left 30 mins waiting in consulting room and had the delay been honestly posted on the tv screen in the waiting room I could have got a message to physio! That is poor management by the hospital. Delays of course happen and are unavoidable and surgeons are called away but there is no excuse for the incorrect information about the obvious delay. Is it a case of the hospital not admitting to delays so they meet targets...
