"One Person - alone"

About: North West Boroughs Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

(as the patient),

I have been in touch with various mental health professionals during my illness. They always seem to come and go - never really interested or willing to help me. Nobody takes the time to listen enough to try to understand some of my worries and where they come from. But there is one person within 5BP who has stuck by me and who continues to be there for me in their professional role. On discharge from Iris Ward not long ago, I was speaking to this professional who has been involved in my care. I asked them "Do you not feel like you are fighting a losing battle - nobody else seems bothered or willing, so do you not feel alone". Their reply was honest. This one person manages to make a difference despite other professionals being dismissive and ignorant to my problems. But my concern is, this is happening all the time. Patients are being shunned every day by professionals, and not all of them have this one person willing to fight for them. My other concern is that this poor staff member is doing all they can and working in conditions that nobody should have to work in. Surely all staff should feel supported and part of a team. Surely that team and other teams they come across should always strive to be supportive. Everybody who works for 5BP should bear that in mind. Forget stats, forget deadlines, forget targets and remember your fellow collegues and your clients - isn't that what you started your job for in the first place? to help?
