I was referred to the 'back to fitness' classes by the consultant physiotherapist at Hillingdon hospital after having several months of severe lower back pain. This also included a period of 7 weeks sick leave from work. I had previously had a course of painkillers and the usual 6 sessions of physiotherapy but these had done little to alleviate the pain. The BTF class, I cannot speak too highly of the class and the staff's ability to teach it. They gave me an initial assessment and showed me basic pilates movements that immediately made me feel more in control of the pain. I then had 8 weekly sessions at the BTF classes with others, which was a mix of physiotherapy and pilates. I also practised these at home and found that my back started improving steadily. I can now feel a marked improvement in my back condition and I intend to keep practising now that the sessions have finished. My only criticism is that these are run in the day (10am and 11am) when most people are at work and I had to get time off work to attend. If these were run in the evening, I would willingly pay to attend a class run by professionals such as these or other NHS physiotherapists. Please let me know if you ever do run them in the evening. The BTF class is an excellent service and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone with a back condition.
