(as a carer),

Whilst driving me to see a consultant in the fracture clinic my husband had a stroke and lost his speech.

The staff on the South entrance reception desk had him sorted in seconds and rushed him to A&E whilst they phoned home for support for me. They calmed me and sorted our precarious car parking problem, then got my visit to the fracture and plaster clinic sorted immediately. They were all wonderful and acted as if these things happened every day.

Then the A & E staff behaved in an equally caring manner till my eighty year old husband was transferred to Ward 9. By this time I was exhausted and was taken home but my husband and daughter both assure me that he was treated with care and concern on the ward. We cannot thank you all enough for your help. Bless you all.

Dear Madam,

I am so sorry to hear the news of your husband's sudden stroke - I can only imagine how frightening this must have been for you both. I am so pleased that all our teams responded just as you needed them to.

Our staff know that stroke is a medical emergency and would have been very keen to ensure that your husband had immediate access to the right assessment as urgently as possible. It is also so important that they managed to do this whilst remaining very calm, to give you had all the support, kindness, information and reassurance that you needed as his wife.
