I was unsure whether to have my baby at the Princess Anne or Ashurst and in the end decided to see how I felt on the day. I was nervous that there weren't the full pain relief options available at the Ashurst Birthing Centre and was worried about how I would respond to the pain. In the end I decided to go to Ashurst and they made it very clear I could be transferred to the hospital if I needed more pain relief. I am so happy I opted to have my baby at Ashurst, the midwives and other staff were so supportive and informative through the labour experience and also post natally. The midwives led me through the labour experience and made decisions about when I should try new pain relief ie water pool and gas and air. I felt completely safe in their care and if I have another baby will not hesitate to choose Ashurst as the birth place. I would like to also add that I was very grateful for the individual breast feeding support that I received and it was a real pleasure to be surrounded by other new mums in the following days to chat about our experiences and even just to relax together at mealtimes. Overall Ashurst felt like a safe haven before returning to real life at home!
