"Some aspects good, some aspects not so good"

Recently my mother was admitted to the hospital as she was very ill on a Sunday. She transferred to the Emergency Care Ward, fairly quickly after being taken for an x-ray. I went to find the doctor to find out the results of the X-ray as we had waited a few hours by this time. I was told the results were clear and did not show anything untoward. There did appear to be a shortage of doctors possibly because it was the weekend. However a day later I was told by a more senior doctor that there was a problem. My mother was transferred to ward 23 for 2 to 3 days and the care she received there was excellent. In particular a Healthcare Support Worker was excellent and went the extra mile to ensure my mum had everything she needed. It is a pity that not all staff are as good as her. She is an excellent example of her profession.When my mother was on the Emergency Care ward we asked for a pillow from a trained nurse and nothing happended and I had to ask a second time about an hour later before this was provided and I was made to feel that I should not have interrupted her whilst she was at the Ward reception area even though she was not dealing with any patients at the time. My mother was transferred to another ward before she passed away. The care on this ward was also good and the nurses were friendly and helpful. It is the actions of one nurse that let the side down. It is just a shame that my mother died in hospital when she would have preferred being in a hospice but unfortunately there did not appear to be any beds available even though she was placed on the end of care pathway. More Hospice beds are needed.
