"Unending Menopause"

About: Birmingham

(as the patient),

I am 72 years old. I began menopause at about age 48 and was given HRT.

When I was about 60 my GP warned that as I had been on HRT for a long time, I should stop taking it. Since then I have had hot flushes every 40 minutes lasting 3 minutes each time.

During the night I only have about 3 night sweats. I find the day flushes particularly difficult to live with, tingling down to my feet and weak -feeling legs.

Deciding what clothes to wear is difficult - layers to rip off during a flush. Sitting still whilst watching a concert is difficult. I realise that many people have much worse things they have to cope with in life but sometimes my problem does get me down.

I have tried health shop remedies - no good. I was prescribed Cetalopram - no good. Presumably there is no cure for my condition but I never feel that GPs are sympathetic. (I am 5 feet tall and weigh 8st 2lb)
