"Hip Replacement 13/01/2014"

About: Cumberland Infirmary

0630 13/01/2014 Lift arrives to take me in for a long awaited operation. On arrival on Mapel B ward I was welcomed in and taken through to my temporary bed, a short while later my consultant came along introduced herself to me and explained what would be happening next, leg marked and I was left to my self for about 20 minutes when the anesthetist came in to explain their involvement in the operation and what type of anesthetic was going to be used, Premeds were given. Porter arrived and the Journey was started! Wheeled into the theater for the start of the operation. I woke up after wards and the road to recovery had started I imagine I was quite heavily sedated but felt ok if not a little sore. Got back to the ward in the afternoon where I met my room mates for the next few days! The pain was about bearable but very uncomfortable the nursing came into their own and had me settled in no time I was unable to sleep the first night but the staff were better than brilliant and could not do enough to help me through. At every stage |I was advised what and why things were being done put my mind at rest! Second day I managed to get up and get my self dressed and I surprised the staff by doing this on m own!! Still in a lot of pain the nurses were there with a good selection of pain killers that eventually worked! Day 4 eventually came round and I was told that I would be able to go home. I would like All the staff who have had to come into contact with me from the Domestic Staff, Ward Assistants, Nurses, Doctors, The consultant and team, anesthetist and team. A massive Thank You To All involved!
