"Still unclean"

About: The Great Western Hospital

My mother was admitted to Linnet ward in the early hours of Boxing Day. When visiting her later that day I was disgusted to see the amount of dirt on the floor around and under her bed. During the time I was there another patient was moved out in their bed and a cleaner came in to sweep the floor it must have taken her all of 10 seconds and really was a complete waste of time as no effort or care was taken when carrying out the task. No wonder the place is so dirty. This was of course after the damning inspection so it appears not much has been learnt. Also when I telephoned the next day to check if my other was being discharged, she had been moved during the night, the nurse that answered the phone had such a poor communication skills that she could not, even after repeating the request several times, understand me when I asked her to let my mum know that I had phoned. A standard request , I would have thought. No wonder mistakes are made.

Thank you for your comments. I am sorry that the cleanliness and communication weren’t up to standard. We are trying very hard to improve on both of these issues and I will be talking to the ward staff about your NHS Choices post.
