"Gynecology Treatment has been terrible"

About: Pilgrim Hospital

My wife has suffered both a rectocele and cystocele prolapse - despite the seriousness of this as confirmed by two GPs and my own wife's immeasurable discomfort and the problems caused the treatment has been dire. The Doctors a the hospital have been patronising, rude and refused to believe there are any issues. They have also refused my wife surgical treatment on the grounds that "her family is not complete yet" - which funnily enough I thought was our decision (and my vasectomy kind of rules having more children out). My wife has been left with a phobia of visiting these Doctors - after all what's the point if you are not taken seriously and not helped. A lot of distress has been caused and two years later my wife is still suffering.

Response from United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust

Dear Anon

I am sorry that you feel the treatment you have been given was not helpful. We always try to give the best treatment to our ladies and I’m sorry this wasn’t the case for your wife. If you would like to contact me with more details I would be happy to look into the case and work with you and the doctors to find a more acceptable solution. My email address is elizabeth.grooby@ulh.nhs.uk.

Many Thanks

Response from United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust

I was sorry to read your comments as in our Department we make every effort to explain to the patient the different options of management. Surgery is not always the only, or the best option. Usually we try the option other than surgery first (pelvic floor exercises or physiotherapy). One of the major reasons for the prolapse is the laxity of the pelvic floor muscle. Surgery does not always achieve the desired result and a relapse or recurrence is sometimes high.

I am sorry I cannot answer this specifically but I am happy to give a more specific answer if we know more details. My secretary's direct number is 01205 445578.
