I took the tour last week as have heard bad reports about the hospital which left me feeling quite anxious, my first choice was Grantham but have now been told the unit closes in February instead of end of March. I found the staff on both Nettleham ward and the Labour ward really friendly and put my mind at ease. We were shown a large room first on labour ward which had it's own bathroom but then was told there may be a chance you could be put in a smaller room if they were busy which looked clean enough but no bath only a toilet and it looked a lot smaller. Midwife also explained about pain relief and said that although epidural was an option it would depend on staffing levels as to whether you could have one which I thought was wrong. My only real gripe is that the birthing pool still isn't ready despite a reply on this very site saying it will be ready in October 2013. The midwife told us on the tour it isn't ready because the pull cord still isn't fixed, this is not good enough in my eyes or perhaps it is an excuse-perhaps being short staffed is why it really isn't being used, either way I hope it is ready soon as this is my only wish when having my 1st child.
