"My time in Calderdale Royal"

About: Calderdale Royal Hospital / Respiratory medicine

(as the patient),

I would like to congratulate you on the worthy staff at Calderdale Royal.

I was admitted to the Respiratory ward C5 in late December from the MAU. I am told that I quickly became very ill and it is due entirely to the vigilance and knowledge of the nursing staff that I was dealt with speedily and efficiently.

The Doctor actually told my wife to expect the worst which indicates my condition at the time. I then spent a few weeks in their wonderful care.

Therefore, I am pleased to applaud the NHS at Calderdale and to show, through you, my deepest felt thanks to all staff on C5 from the ladies who serve the excellent meals and domestics who are most cheerful and efficient, to the nurses and doctors that administer such care and patience.

I would ask that they be made aware of my comments and that all should have a mention of this notation placed on their personal files please.

I would add that this is not a one off experience. I was very ill about 5 years ago and spent 3 weeks at Calderdale Royal when again they were excellent. I am also in a position to draw comparisons as prior to this, I spent about 3 weeks in Huddersfield where I will in future absolutely refuse to be sent.

We are sorry to hear that you were so ill but of course delighted to hear you made such a good recovery. Your comments will be passed to the staff involved who will be pleased to hear that their efforts were appreciated. We are, however, sorry to hear that you do not have such good memories of Huddersfield. Should you ever have any cause for concern during a hospital appointment or stay, we would be really grateful if you would give us the opportunity to address the issues. You can do this by contacting our Patient Advice and Complaints Service on 0800 013 0018 or by email to patientadvice@cht.nhs.uk. Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. We hope you are now fully recovered from your illness.
