"Booking in procedure"

About: Bristol Royal Infirmary

Arrived as stated in letter at 07:45am but not operated on until 02:30 pm. I was only told just prior to the operation that I was on the afternoon operating list. Checked with reception and she said that the nursing staff knew I was on the afternoon operating list. As advised by the pamphlet, I hadn't eaten since 9:00pm the following day and by 02:00pm I was extremely ill and vomiting as I hadn't eaten or drank for 18 hours. Surely I should have been told on arrival that as I was due to be operated on in the afternoon, and that I could have a drink and a light snack to stop myself becoming ill. Didn't mind the waiting around but this non-communication seems very harsh.
