"Chest pains and anxiety"

About: South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / Emergency ambulance

(as the patient),

I was suffering chest pains on and off from 9pm the previous evening. I suffer greatly with anxiety and only usually go out once a week on average.

I didn't want to seek help because I had a massive phobia of going to hospital. I was also worried I was wasting peoples time.

Noon the next day I called my doctor because the pain got so severe. He told me to put the phone down and dial 999. The call handler was excellent help arrived very quickly and the crew put me at ease straight away. They were very understanding and very caring.

If you suffer with anxiety and need an ambulance but are afraid to call, don't be. We are in safe hands.

Dear Ian74

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience of our service. I hope you are feeling much better, and glad that you felt reassured and comfortable in the hands of our staff.

It is always rewarding to hear that our staff are continuing to provide excellent care to our patients when they need us most.

I would like to pass your thanks onto the person that you spoke to on the telephone, and the ambulance crew who came to you. In order to do this I would need to know the date that you called 999, and the address that the ambulance came to. Would you be able to send an email, at your convenience, to me at laura.martin@swast.nhs.uk?

Kind regards

Laura
