"Constant misdiagnosis"

About: Conquest Hospital

Apparently I'm the "mystery man". I could have cancer I could have TB I could have some other infection, they just don't know and have just decided to try "clutching at straws" treatment rather than nothing without telling me what this treatment may be, they call me in for a biopsy result to tell me there isn't one, they want another from my lungs after taking one from my spine and now tell me they want me admitted for this unknown treatment after telling me they can't treat me until until they know what the unknown disease is because the wrong drugs would be dangerous? 5-10 days administering a drug they don't know what will do or is safe to use on me? I was impressed by my care at first but not now, it's gone from suspected missed appendix to diverticulitis to gall bladder to cancer and or TB or something else, I've been seen by the wrong consultant(surgeon who appears to be walking away from the case)when mine is apparently not surgical, I'm now being seen by a respiratory consultant who phones me and expects me to drop everything and come in at the weekend when he won't even be there! I've agreed to go in after the weekend when something may get done but last time I was kept 3 days NBM until they finally did a CT scan and I'm not going through that again. They know there is a severe infection there somewhere on my spine and lungs but can't identify it, surely I'm not the only patient they've ever seen with my symptoms and at no point have I been seen by someone who specialises in my condition? If it is cancer, as they suspected why haven't I been referred to an oncologist? An MRI suggested something nasty but they couldn't get the images from Virgin to whom it was farmed out to? They start at the bottom then work their way up, all the scans, colonoscopy etc have proved nothing. This has been going on for a year now and since last June at the Conquest and I've given up, pain is increasing and will soon reach a level where I won't be able to take more painkillers at a safe limit. I understand their difficulties but it's now become intolerable and I've given up, I expect nothing more from them, end of. Especially when they read this

We're very sorry to hear about your concerns regarding a diagnosis. We're keen to try and help you and wondered whether you would consider contacting our Patient Advice & Liaison Service (PALS) who are always happy to look into individual patient concerns. They can be contacted on 01424 758090 or by email at: PALSH@esht.nhs.uk.
