We were woken in the night by the sounds of our little boy coughing quite badly, and deliberated for ages about what we should do. When he really started struggling for breath we called an ambulance, feeling a mixture of panic for our son and concern that we were being typical overreacting new parents!
The ambulance arrived within five minutes and the paramedics were calm, professional and reassuring. Predictably, by the time they'd arrived our little one seemed to be a bit better, but they took us in to A&E anyway so he could be checked.
On arriving at LGI A&E we spoke to several different members of staff, doctors and nurses, all of whom were brilliant. They too were professional, caring and efficient - we both thought they had a great bedside manner, especially with our son.
After a quick diagnosis of croup, our son was given steroids and kept in for a couple of hours' observation. We left feeling very well looked after, and extremely grateful that the NHS exists - I dread to think what we'd have done and how much we'd have had to pay were it not for the NHS.
Thanks very much to all the staff involved!
