"my stay in RBH from 30/12/13"

About: Royal Berkshire Hospital

I was admitted to the RBH on Monday 30/12/2013 with a leg infection. Initially I was only suypposed to stay overnight, but I ended up being in hospital until Friday 10 January 2014. My infected leg was dressed in A & E on the 30/12/2013 and then was left unlooked at until Saturday 4 January 2014, and was only cleaned and re-dressed then because I kept badgering the nursing staff to do it. Ultimately my infection became worse and I ended up having antibiotics through a drip. All in all my leg was dressed 3 times between 30/12/13 - 10/01/2014 some 12 days stay. Now I have been discharged with instructions to dress the infected leg twice daily and I have another 10 days antibiotics to take for the infection, all caused by incompetant staff. Call this a hospital, it is a poor apology for a well run hospital and I never want to have to stay in there again.

Our apologies for your experience in ED. You do not mention the ward you were on within the hospital (as you would not stay in ED for this time period). This makes it very difficult for us to investigate. If you could contact either the matron for the area on 0118 322 8088 or our Patient Relations Team on 0118 322 8338 (email: talktous@royalberkshire.nhs.uk) to provide more detail, we can look at your case and respond more accurately for the decision making around dressing changes. We take feedback very seriously and we would like the opportunity to address this correctly so details would be much appreciated.
