"The standard of clinical care ..."

About: Dorking General Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked The standard of clinical care was excellent What could be improved? My greatest concern about this hospital is the serious lack of attention to administration regarding patient records. I moved house recently and wrote to the hospital to change the address. They did not action this and still continue to send correspondence to my old address. When you are waiting for results these delays are potentially dangerous. When I queried this I was told that I had moved between consultants and the new address details had not been transferred over. Dorking Hospital also continue to spell my name wrong and have mixed up my married name with my maiden name despite me telling them on several occasions to correct the old name. These errors could lead to misfiling and potential information being missed. My greatest concern about this hospital is that I was recently treated as an outpatient and was referred for a scan in another hospital. The consultant gave me the details to give to reception to request the appointment. I did this and waited 4 weeks and heard nothing. I assumed this was due to usual NHS delays but eventually I rang and queried it. I was then told by the consultant's secretary (who was very helpful) that there was no record of an appointment being requested or made. The reception staff had not made the appointment. When you are waiting for a major scan any delay causes anxiety but when you have waited 4 weeks and not even made the waiting list this is dangerous and just not acceptable. I would urge all hospital users to check their details carefully because in my experience the administration standards are very poor at Dorking Hospital.
