This is a copy of the letter of appreciation I wrote to the John Warin Ward after treatment there: Dear Doctor and support staff, I have recovered now from my illness with cellulitis that I was treated for at the John Warin Ward on 5-6 November and write to thank you very much for your treatment which was perfectly professional and very prompt. I greatly appreciated this provision by you specialists of our wonderful National Health Service and cannot praise you enough for the expertise displayed and care shown to me. As a 45 year resident in Oxford, coming here from the USA as a student with a view to staying permanently, in part for the advantage of the National Health Service, I have long appreciated it in all of its aspects. That the service is being threatened with privatisation is heartbreaking and I dearly hope it is not completed. I have seen the worst aspects of private medicine in my native America and it seems madness that the government intends to make our NHS more like that dreadful system. There is not much an individual patient can do to laud your work enough but at least I am writing to say how grateful I am and I wish you all continued support in your work. Yours sincerely, Joseph Winkelman
