"Phone number"

About: North Tyneside General Hospital

I thnk it is absolutely ridiculous that there is nto a geographical telephone number for this hospital. Many places npw have bothe the o844 number anad an alternative geographical number. Today I ahve had cause to call North Tyneside Hospital, I eventually got through to the switchboard, then waited a number of minutes for the ward staff to answer. I realise that the staff are very busy, but the cost of these calls add up. Profit profit profit is all they care about. Also yesterday my hsband was admitted, I dropped him off at A&E and then tried to park the car, as I am disabled I need to be on the closest car park, I had to sit for 25 minutes for a space to become available, this is ridiculous in my opinion, conme on get your act together. Tonight it will have to be taxis, more expense. My husband is terminally ill, this all adds to the stress of our situation. It makes me sick!!!

Dear Madam I am so sorry that you have experienced difficulties when phoning North Tyneside Hospital. I absolutely understand your frustrations, especially at a time when you will be very concerned about your husband. I want to reassure you that we charge a lower rate of 4p a minute for our 0844 number. This number ensures everyone calling the Trust is charged the same rate which on many occasions can be cheaper. Unfortunately mobile phone providers can, and do, charge a higher amount. Blue badge parking spaces nearest to the main entrance of the hospital are limited and unfortunately this may result in there being no free spaces available at times. I am really sorry that you have had to wait for 25 minutes to park in this area. I can appreciate how inconvenient this must feel when you need a space as near to the entrance as possible. As a blue badge holder you are free to use any patient parking areas free of charge. The serious nature of your husband’s illness entitles you to similar concessions. The car park at the front of the hospital might be a good alternative in the future. As part of an ongoing review of the parking changes the Estates team are continually looking at the availability of the parking spaces, I will make sure that I pass your comments on to them. Best wishes Annie
