"The only part i liked was the ..."

About: St Mary's Hospital (Portsmouth)

(as the patient),

What I liked

The only part i liked was the care and attention from the ambulance crew.

What could be improved

I was rushed to hospital whilst on holiday in the area. I was taken to the gynae emergency room and was left in the care of a nurse. This nurse was extremely rude to me throughout my stay and didnt help me one bit. I was left with no pain killers for over three hours and when i eventually had some, i choked on them and the nurse just watched. Due to an examination i was covered in blood and was made to walk past another bed to clean myself up in the toilet, even though i was in agony.

Anything else?

I discharged myself from this hospital after them wanting to keep me in over night as i was very dissapointed with the lack of care given to me.

Thank you for taking the time to post your comment. Please accept our apologies for the way you feel you were treated. The Emergency Assessment area is usually staffed by a nurse. We apologise for the fact that the nurse was rude to you and this has been communicated back to all ward staff. Normally pain relief is offered after assessment. It is difficult to comment further without additional information related to this specific episode. In the assessment area there is a private toilet and bidet and patients should be informed that these facilities are available. There are only two examination couches - however, both couches should be screened to provide privacy and dignity. From your comments it would appear that this did not happen. Staff have been reminded to ensure curtains are closed. Your experience has been shared in the department in order to raise awareness and to avoid such incidents happening in the future.
