"Recent visit to the Lister Hospital Surgical..."

About: Lister Hospital

On the 6th January 2014 I was admitted into the new Lister Hospital Surgical Centre for a tonsillectomy. As I have never had an operation with anaesthetic before I was very nervous. Upon arrival I was quickly directed to theatre admissions. I was quickly seen and whilst completing my form my clinical support worker had already arrived. Was very impressed with how efficient he was. He was very supportive and kept me in the know of what he was doing and what was going to happen. Gave me the suitable privacy to get changed and sort out my belongings without being rushed. I was shortly visited by the anaesthetist to explain what was happening and all the safety measures which helped to reassure me. The surgeon came in aswell and went through my procedure and a nurse introduced herself aswell. All of the staff that carried out the procedure were very helpful and polite. I knew who they were and what part they were playing. My recovery care was amazing. Above expectations by far. The seperate areas for men and women were a good idea.. You had the choice of privacy or not depending on your recent treatment. All of the nurses were helpful and caring and there if needed. On being discharged from my stay, the ward sister was very caring and lovely. Advised me on my after care and medication and walked me out of the ward and downstairs to the exit with my mother who came to pick me up. I am very grateful for the care from all staff involved with my treatment and would compare if not class the care and attention from them to be better than private hospitals. I thank those all very much.

Response from Lister Hospital

Given that you only had this treatment yesterday, thank you so much for your swift and very kind feedback. We have a great team at the Lister's Treatment Centre (which is the new name for the former Surgicentre that until September was run by a separate private sector company until it is returned to the NHS), but that doesn't mean they won't be any the less delighted to read your feedback. We hope that you continue to make a speedy and full recovery.
