"Great service at Southmead hospital"

About: Southmead Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

A few days ago I went into Southmead hospital to have my gall bladder taken out by keyhole surgery. The care I received was outstanding.

The pre-surgery discussions with a nurse, the anaesthetist, and the surgeon, Mr Morton, were clear, supportive and highly professional. All my questions were answered fully and clearly. The staff in the operating theatre provided a friendly relaxed atmosphere.

After surgery the care was exemplary. While one would expect the recovery room staff to be attentive and caring, this standard continued on ward J. The nursing staff were very busy and seemed to work very hard, but always took time to respond to any request, checked on me frequently, and their friendly yet respectful manner made me feel confident and re-assured throughout my short stay. The nurse in charge of the ward was amazing. Her cheerful, outgoing manner, her efficiency and her high profile on the ward provided an atmosphere of high professionalism. She provided me with excellent advice about post-operative care and kept me informed about my discharge arrangements right up until I left the ward.

With Mr Morton's skill and the care I received, the whole experience was a great success. The NHS at it's very best.
